When the emergency instructions are given before your flight takes off, the flight attendants tell you to put on your own mask first. And this message is sometimes reiterated for mothers with small children or people traveling with the elderly. Even though these instructions seem counter-intuitive, the fact of the matter is that if you help yourself first you’ll then be able to help others. As Christians we tend to judge others, but the bible tells us not to judge others; or we will be judged!

We should also remove the log from our own eye before we try to remove the speck from our brother's. Click To Tweet

So just as we’re told on the plane to put on our own mask first we should also remove the log from our own eye first before we try to remove the speck from our brother’s. The reason why folks aren’t experiencing more of God’s grace is because He’s looking at the standard that we’re applying to others and He is applying it to us. What goes around comes around.

RELATED VERSES

Matthew 7:1-5 (NKJV)
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

1 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)
For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
