Two sisters were swimming near the shore off the coastline of New Jersey and the current started to pull them out into deeper water. All of a sudden the current was so strong that they couldn’t resist it. It wasn’t long after that their father who was on shore watching realized that they had drifted and immediately swam out to get them. When he reached the girls he realized with anguish that he couldn’t save both of them and faced the gut-wrenching decision of which of his daughters he was going to save. He decided to take his youngest daughter with him and then come back for his older daughter. The father looked into eyes of his seven year old and said, “Sweetie, Daddy has all the confidence in the world in you, and here’s what I want you to do: simply float on your back like we do at home in the pool, and I’ll be right back to get you. I know you can do it!”

Let's do what our Father told us to do until He comes back! Click To Tweet

The father raced back to shore with his youngest daughter, and once there discovered that the lifeguards had observed the situation and they all jumped into a boat to rescue the other daughter. They zoomed out to where the Father had left her and to their horror they couldn’t find her. Several hours later fear and dread had settled in. They were about to give up when suddenly they saw a little pink bathing suit floating in the water. They raced the boat toward the little girl and the father jumped in and grabbed her and they drove back to shore.

There was much rejoicing, and when the news media asked the little girl how she’d floated for such a long time, she made the most riveting statement. She said, “I was just doing what my father told me until he came back.”

As Christians, that’s exactly what we’re supposed to do: just keep doing what our Father told us to do until He comes back!

Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Mark 16:15-18 (NKJV)
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Colossians 1:27 (NKJV)
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
