Empty Seat

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, October 2nd 2017 Share the goods! A man went to the Super Bowl. He could not afford the great seats so he bought the cheaper seats relatively speaking and he was in the nosebleed section, even though his ticket had cost $350.00. The man noticed something as he looked through his binoculars, he saw that down on the 50-yard line was an empty seat. “I can’t stand this! I’m going to go down there and see if I can get that empty seat.” He made his way down there. It took him past half time to get to the seat because he had to travel so far. He got down there walked over to the seat and said, “Sir, is there anyone sitting in the seat?” He replied, “You can sit here the seat is available. My wife and I would go to the Super Bowl every year, but my wife recently died and so this seat is available.” Then it dawned on the man, as he started thinking to himself, “Your wife recently died, don’t you have some relatives or friends that you could have brought with you to bring to the game and sit in the seat?” The man responded: “Yes but they are all at the funeral.” You see that man had his priorities confused… What is the most important thing to you? Nine Heroes

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, August 28th 2017 Share the goods! Some years ago, in the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants who were all mentally challenged in some way assembled at the starting block for the 100-yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly with a dash, but with a relish to run the race and finish and win. All except one boy who once he started out in the race tumbled over the asphalt several times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back every single one of them. One girl with Down Syndrome bent down, kissed him, and said, “This will make it better.” All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together. Everyone in the stadium cheered, this went on for minutes and people were still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know this one thing; what matters in this life is more than just winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others to win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course!!!! What truly matters in this life is helping others to win. The Most Important Thing

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, November 14th 2016 Share the goods! RC. Sproul tells a story of a terrible fire in a home and a fire department completely overwhelmed by the tenacity of the flames. It seemed as though no matter what they tried, the flame became more intense. They continued to douse the home with water, but nothing changed. All of a sudden, to their chagrin, they heard the cry of a little baby come from the house. They were overwhelmed with agony and then a man came out of left field bursting through the chaos. Several policemen and firemen ran into the house. Other firemen sat as they watched time elapse; every second seemed like a year. Every man will choose what is most important to him. Click To Tweet All of the sudden they see the man resurface through the front of the door with soot and burn marks all over himself. He had ashes laced all over his clothes and in his arms he had a blanket wrapped tightly. When he got to the grass in the front of the home, he gently placed down the blanket. All of his stock certificates flew out, his insurance policy flew out, and the title deed to all of his possessions flew out. You see the fire department thought when that man went into the house he was going to get that little child, but in reality, he was going to get what was most important to him. Is The Cake Ready?

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, October 24th 2016 Share the goods! Do you remember when you were little and your mother may have been in the kitchen baking a cake? You would watch her in anticipation. You would watch her add flour, sugar, and vanilla. You would see her blend these ingredients together and your anticipation of how good that cake was going to taste would be so strong. If you were like me, you would keep going in the kitchen and maybe peek in the oven and see the cake start to turn brown on the top. You might then yell to your mother and tell her the cake was ready. But what would she do when she came in the kitchen? She would go in the draw, take out a toothpick, open the oven door, and insert the toothpick into the cake. Just because something looks done on the outside, it does not mean it is done on the inside. Click To Tweet Then what would happen at times? When she pulled the toothpick out of the cake, there would be dough on the toothpick, and she would tell you that the cake needed a little more time. What did you learn? Just because something looks done on the outside, it does not mean it is done on the inside. A lot of times when we look at ourselves we look done on the outside, but on the inside we need more work. Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, October 17th 2016 Share the goods! There was a man whose feet were flat, which caused him to get bunions. And when he would speak at conferences, he would get so tired that he could barely stand after two full days. Over the years, he would try orthopedic inserts; he even purchased some orthopedic shoes that were made in France. The salesman described them as the best fitting shoes in France. When he arrived home, he decided to compare how good these new shoes felt compared with some existing soft soled shoes and his sneakers. When he got home, he tried the soft sole shoe on one foot and the new orthopedic shoe on the other foot, and then he started walking around. After walking around for a while and getting in a panic, he took off the soft sole shoe and then he put on his sneakers. He then began to walk around, and he discovered that his sneakers also felt better than the “so-called” most comfortable shoe in the world. What's confortable may not be beneficial Click To Tweet So he phoned the salesman and said that he was having a little buyer’s remorse and explained what he had done. The salesmen said “I think I understand what happened. In America, they confuse fit with comfort. Europeans equate fit with the long term structural support that the shoe provides. Who’s The Best

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, October 3rd 2016 Share the goods! During the 2005 football season, Keyshawn Johnson, who was then a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys made a statement. He stated that he was a better receiver than Michael Irving because he played a more all-around game. What he meant was that he was involved on every play, blocking and preventing tackles, and not just being a pass catcher!! This caught the attention of many football fans. First of all Michael Irvin has 3 Super Bowl rings. Besides that, most people feel outright that Michael Irvin was a better receiver. But one point that Keyshawn had in his favor was that in his career he made a choice to do the intangible things that didn’t show up on any stat sheets or get noticed by the fans and the rest of the world. In a strange way, this is something that every man has to deal with in his own way. How will you feel at the end of your life? Click To Tweet To be a “Keyshawn Johnson man, in a Michael Irvin world” what does that mean? It may mean that as a father he is blocking for his children’s education by helping them with their homework when he comes home at night even though he is tired after a long day in the office. Or he may be blocking for the longevity of his marriage by getting up in the middle of the night for his children so that his wife can get some sleep. Suppose you don’t make the Hall...

While walking down the street, he saw a manhole and so he decided to jump into the hole. The next day he got up, and he walked to the same manhole. On this day, he looked inside of the hole and then he decided to jump in. On the third day, the man looked inside of the same manhole and said, “I’d better not jump in” and then he went ahead and jumped in. God is concerned about the paths we choose. Click To Tweet The following day he awoke and approached the same hole, he looked inside, and said, “Boy that really hurt,” then he jumped inside of the hole. On the next day, the man got up and walked all the way down the street and again he jumped into the hole. This sounds just like a lot of people’s dating lives. Finally, one day the man awoke and decided to take a different street. He chose a new path. God is concerned about the paths we choose. In My Father’s Shoes

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, August 29th 2016 Share the goods! The goal of discipleship is to have someone step in our shoes and pave new territories. This is the beauty of daddy’s little boy clomping down the stairs with a pair of his father’s shoes; that picture is a nostalgic one. What men do not realize is that someday their son will fill shoes in the way life was modeled for them. This is deep because at best, a father will have 15 years to model the behavior for his sons, and the first eight years are the most important. This is why it is so important to realize that children model what they see, and they will model what is displayed at home. Children model what they see, and they model what is displayed at home. Click To Tweet This is profound because there isn’t a curriculum to teach children how to treat people with dignity and affection. In other words, you cannot diagram dignity and affection. You cannot diagram respect, forgiveness, or servanthood. This is not found in any encyclopedia that I know of, but it must be put in motion. It is so important what a father models, so if he makes statements like, “Those dumb police are always trying to stop speeders with their radar! Why don’t they take the time to try to catch people who are breaking into homes?!” Or statements like, “All of Washington is full of hypocrites and idiots and the man in the Whitehouse is the biggest one of all.” They start planting seeds of anti-government...

The Tip

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, July 11th 2016 Share the goods! There are some key questions that affect the tip when you go to a restaurant. The first thing is: Are you cheap? Some people have a no tip philosophy, so that immediately will effect their tip. In other words do you value service to begin with? The second consideration is the food. Was it good? Did I enjoy my meal? But the biggest determining factor is the waiter or waitress. Have you ever been at a restaurant and the waitress says “here,” throws the plate down, gives you the evil eye and generally looks like they do not want to be there? Part of you says, I wish he or she would have just stayed home. Sometimes it is so bad, that you are thinking, I would have preferred to go into the kitchen and gotten my own food, because service was so sloppy. And if you are like me then you do not like it, you do not appreciate it! Their service affects their tip. You are blessed to be a blessing. Click To Tweet Then there is the waitress who greets you with a smile, and says “Welcome to Jack’s Rib Joint, it is so nice to have you dine with us today.” Followed by “let me get your drinks.” “What would you like today?” “Watch out the plate is hot!” “Can I show you the desert menu? I will bring you the desert tray.” “Hey let me get those crumbs.” “Is there anything else I can do for you?” And finally, “Have...

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, February 8th 2016 Share the goods! If we were able to control every point of access into America, or only have one point of access then it would be difficult for terrorists to infiltrate the country. But since there are many entry points it makes the job of keeping villains out more challenging. Like a bank robber or jewel thief is how satan attempts to act in our lives. He wants to sneak in and gain access into our minds and lives at entry points where our defenses are down. If we can control our thought life, we can control our decisions. Click To Tweet Notice the Bible does not say “take every demon captive,” but rather 2nd Corinthians 10:5 says to “take every thought captive.” This doesn’t mean that we don’t have to cast out demons, but we cast out demons from demon-possessed people, not normal everyday saints. Don’t Void The Warranty

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, January 25th 2016 Share the goods! Many products we purchase today come with a warranty. In some cases, we can buy an extended warranty which guarantees that the manufacturer will stand behind the product it if fails, but there are limitations. A manufacturer will cover a product if there’s a flaw in the manufacturing process, but not if you abuse the product. If you use your Dell computer in the shower and it stops working, you obviously cannot take it back to Dell. God has a warranty for your life as long as you are using it for His purpose. Be of Good Cheer

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, January 18th 2016 Share the goods! We can usually cope with something when we find out it’s normal. When a pregnant woman starts to have morning sickness or her feet start to swell she can initially become very upset, but when a doctor tells her that these experiences can be a normal part of pregnancy all of a sudden the woman’s perspective changes and she adapts. She’s still nauseated. Her ankles are still swollen, and she can’t fit comfortably into most of her clothes. She may still be feeling poorly physically, but she’s no longer worried because she understands what’s happening and that it’s all part of the process. If you go through life without understanding that there are some things that you have to go through so that you can deliver what God has impregnated in you, you can get distracted. John 16:33 NKJV says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. How consistent is my explanatory style with what the Bible has to say? Click To Tweet Psalms 34:19 NKJV reminds us that, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” If you don’t live with the mindset that there are some things in life that you simply must push through, you’ll turn an experience into a crisis—when it’s really just a crossroad! We must continually ask ourselves, “ What’s my perspective on this situation, and what...

Grocery List

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, November 16th 2015 Share the goods! When you go grocery shopping on an empty stomach and without a shopping list, almost everything looks especially attractive, and your shopping cart ends up filled with too many snacks and not enough nutrition. And when the cashier rings up your items and announces your total you’re in a state of shock! The worst part is that then you start to rationalize the amount of money you spent but still didn’t get the items you needed! The object of a grocery list is to purchase a nutritionally balanced diet for your family. Shopping without a list encourages the likelihood of purchasing the wrong food. Similarly if we don’t establish priorities in our lives and choose wisely, we’ll wind up making decisions without thinking–just because a particularly opportunity looks attractive. We’ll wind up piling things in to the baskets of our lives just like when we’re in a well-stocked grocery store and we shop without a list. The object of setting priorities is to allocate our time and money according to God’s desires. But too often we choose our priorities with the same lack of foresight as our trips to the grocery store, and the things that we give priority to are simply not what we need–or importantly, what God wants!! According to Webster’s, “a priority is something to which we give precedence by assigning a degree of urgency or importance to it.” If we don't establish priorities in our lives, we'll wind up making decisions without thinking. Debt Collectors

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, November 9th 2015 Share the goods! Why do men go into debt? Businesses subconsciously market and appeal to our hidden need for love, approval, companionship, significance and relief from anxiety. We live in a society of mass consumerism and the goal is always more consumption. Ads on tv, radio, online and in social media prompt us all to buy, buy, buy and spend, spend, spend. This may boost the economy, but what does this do to you and your pocketbook? It drives most folks further and further into debt. Debt beguiles us into believing that if we just buy one more thing it will satisfy our thirst. Debt enables men to pretend for a while that they're someone they're not... Click To Tweet And the problem with debt is that it’s addictive–once you find out how to get things with it, you drink up more and more as if it were sweet wine. And then your palate just wants to be delighted with even more. But long after the novelty has worn off of whatever you’ve purchased, long after the vacation is over, we have to pay back the money. Debt is a mirage. The most insidious thing about debt is that it enables men to pretend for a while that they’re someone they’re not, but the façade does not fool the bill collectors. Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, September 11th 2017 Share the goods! Do you remember when you were a little kid and you used to play a game called “Follow the Leader”? Remember what that was like; you would pick one child and make them the leader and whatever the leader did you would have to do. So if the leader stood up on one leg, you would have to stand up on one leg. If the leader would hop on their right leg, then you had to hop on the right leg or you were out. If the leader would hop on the left leg you had to hop on the left leg or you were out. If the leader climbed a tree, you had to climb the tree or you were out. Now here is the key question: how did you know what the leader was doing so that you could imitate him? Simple. You had to stay in their presence. If you refused to stay in their presence, then you would not know what to do. If you looked away for a second, then you would not know what the leader is doing. The sides were so slick that they could not climb out of it. The frogs had to paddle and paddle just to stay alive; this went on and on for a long time. One frog got so tired that he gave up. He said, “We are never going to get out of here, we’re wasting our time!” He quit, and sunk to the bottom of the bowl. The other frog was more determined; he did not want to quit, so he kept paddling and paddling. A little more time passed, and he noticed that the consistency of cream was changing: it got thicker and thicker. This made the paddling more difficult to do, but the frog refused to quit. God wants to dress you up and give you a new nature so you can attract people to Him and make Him look good! Your job is to make God look good! Why is a mannequin in a store window? To be an attraction; to make the store look great and enticing, and lure the customer into the store. The mannequin sets the tone of the store through the clothes that it wears so that people will come in and spend money in the store. Catch this, the clothes on the dummy did not come from the dummy, the clothes on the dummy came from the owner of the store, and the owner of the store put clothes on the dummy so that folks on the outside will be drawn into the store. The Good Steward

The Good Steward

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, June 13th 2016 Share the goods! The job of a steward is to protect and expand the resources of another. When you put your money in the bank you do it for two reasons, to protect it, and to grow, or expand it. It’s a lot harder for a thief to get to your money out of the bank than from under your pillow. And depositing our money in the bank means that if you leave it there it will gain interest and expand and after a certain amount of time you’ll have more money than you deposited. So to be a good steward over something you want to protect and expand. This is why in the Parable of the Talents the first two men immediately went out to start getting a return and endeavored to maximize God’s resources. But the third guy essentially did nothing; he buried his talent in the ground where the money couldn’t even gain interest. The job of a steward is to protect and expand the resources of another. Click To Tweet So in our everyday lives we must invest what God has given us and get interest on it. God wants more out of your life, just as a baby grows to become a full adult. When parents invest in the life of a child it’s because they want the child to become all he/she can be. The key to life is to give back to God everything He gave you, but He wants it back with interest. If He gives you groceries, God wants...

The captain sets a compass heading in the direction he wants to go. He locks in that heading on the autopilot, and then the boat takes off in that direction; so far so good. It gets interesting when the craft hits a large wave or a series of waves. The autopilot does not allow the external action to alter its course. It keeps its original decision in place, heads straight for the goal, and then goes through the wave. There is a splash, lots of rocking and spraying, and an immediate correction by the autopilot if the ship is knocked off course in any way. When I say immediate, I mean immediate. The autopilot does not allow the ship to get swayed off course even momentarily when it hits a bump in the water. Beware of the fear of men... Click To Tweet Most people do not operate like this. The case was taken to the Supreme Court where Chief Justice Marshall ruled that “a pardon is a slip of paper, the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged.” And hanged he was. Even if we are opposed to the death penalty, we still cannot but agree with the principle that a pardon granted has to be accepted to become active. This is the point of the gospel. When God forgives us, we must accept God’s forgiveness. But then the gospel goes on to indicate that the way to receive God’s forgiveness is not just to say “Amen, so be it,” but to go out and live a life of forgiveness. Live a life of forgiveness! Frisbee Dog

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, April 10th 2016 Share the goods! Say you have a Frisbee dog at home. You know, the kind that catches Frisbees. You enter him into all types of competitions and he breaks his leg playing Frisbee. We all know that the dog is going to take at least a couple of weeks to heal. Would you make your dog go out and perform injured? The answer is no because you love your dog, and you want him to get well so that he can play Frisbee another day. As a result, you may lose a Frisbee competition because you were a no-show. When we have Biblical values, we know that if we are asked to do things by other people who do not understand us as well as we need to be understood, they may be asking us to play Frisbee with a broken leg. We know that if we do, we are going to re-injure ourselves. This is when we have to allow our “yes to be yes and our no to be no” (Matthew 5:37), which is simply a way of protecting ourselves. It may not seem loving to the person who wants to control you, but it is loving to God because you are taking responsibility to fix that puppy’s broken leg. Let your yes to be yes and your no to be no! Seek Knock Find

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, April 4th 2016 Share the goods! Have you ever lost your car keys? After you look in three or four places, do you just say, “I guess those keys are lost forever?” No. You keep looking all over until you find them, and you will tear up the house because you need those car keys and cannot function without them. So you keep looking and wreck your house looking for the keys. Catch this!!! The more frustrated you get, the more you throw things around. When you are in hot pursuit of something you don’t take the time to put things back into order, you don’t stack your clothes or dishes neatly just then. You just go crazy until you find whatever it is you’re looking for. You seek until you find. Keep asking, seeking and knocking. Click To Tweet Did you ever forget your key, or lock yourself out of your house when you were a kid? You knew someone was home, but maybe they were asleep and couldn’t hear you. But you didn’t just stand there and wait patiently for someone to let you in. You didn’t just knock one time, you kept knocking, or yelling, “Anybody home?! I’m locked out!” or ringing the bell until you got in. You did everything you needed to do because you knew someone was inside. This is what the Bible means in Matthew 7:7 when it instructs you to keep asking, seeking and knocking: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be...

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, March 7th 2016 Share the goods! We have all watched a space shuttle lift off from planet earth and soar into outer space and into the heavens. What’s deep is that space shuttle sits on a launch pad and is ready to move into another realm, but it can’t go anywhere until the fire at its base has been ignited. There’s a countdown and when it hits zero the boosters are ignited and the shuttle takes off into space. A blazing fire takes it from the gravitational pull of the earth and delivers it to the glory of the heavens. Most Christians have been earthbound too long, and unable to get their missions off the ground. Click To Tweet But if there’s no fire; there’s no ignition, and no destiny. Most Christians have been earthbound too long, and unable to get their missions off the ground. In the meantime a countdown is in effect because we’re growing older day by day. But when we are set on fire by the Holy Spirit, when He ignites us on the inside, we will have blast off and we will soar!
