He had an only son whom he loved with all of his heart and might. Unfortunately, this young man got sick and he died. Fitzgerald was shattered at the loss of his son. As time passed, Fitzgerald died and he had a very large art collection that was extremely valuable but there was no one to inherit it. His wife had long since been dead. The first piece of art was a picture of his son and it did not have the beauty of all the other pieces. It was sort of a personal thing that had a lot of sentimental value to him. Over a long period of time, they change the location of your teeth. This is how we are equipped to live like Christ. When we commit to living like Christ, we allow him to apply the gentle, steady constant pressure that will change the location of our desires, our motivations, and our ambitions. And at times, like our teeth, it may be a slow process. If you had braces when your teeth finally straightened out, do you remember what the orthodontist warned if you did not wear your retainer every night? He said your teeth would go back to their old location. In much the same way, there is never a time when we do not need to be equipped by Jesus. As it builds up calcium it starts to form a pearl. As we fight against the irritations in our lives we, too form pearls. The things that we’ve endured, the things that have hurt us cause us to build up a defense, just as the clam forms a pearl by fighting against the sand trapped in its flesh. Everyone’s talking about “receiving a blessing” or “being blessed”, but when they use the word “blessing,” they’re usually referring to a material blessing–they’re talking about the the car, the house, the mate, the job.Those folks are looking for a physical manifestation of a desire, and that’s fine, but the essence of a true blessing takes place on the inside. In the process of moving toward the thing that you desire, the LORD does a work on you in the inside. What you become in the process of being blessed is more important than the end result. Proverbs 10:22 says, “The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” NKJV. So don’t tell me that God blessed you with a house, and you’re miserable going home. Don’t tell me that He’s blessed you with more money, but you’re giving less than you did before. As a child, many of us have been to the Ringling Brothers circus at Madison Square Garden or the Nassau Colosseum. If you look at the elephants, you will see that while huge, they are tied to a little tiny stake that has been hammered into the ground. Did you know that if they wanted to, they could rip the stick out and free themselves to roam? But they will never do it. Because when they were a baby, they were “lied” to. The trainer led them to believe that as long as there was a stake in the ground with a chain, they were helpless, hopeless, and bound. They drummed this into the elephant’s orientation so regularly – hitting the little elephants’ leg when they tried to move it!!! This happens in the spring. When you look at the picture on the outside of the package, and you compare it to the contents, the two do not look the same. This is how nature works. You plant a seed, and then the plant comes up, but it does not look like the seed. When you have a bunch of seeds together, it could be apple, tomato, etc. If you place them together, you don’t know the difference until you plant them. But when they grow up they all look different. When we do not metabolize or process the events in our lives we prevent ourselves from being able to embrace the new that God has for us. We’re like a computer that has a very small hard drive, say 3GB, and every time we try to upload a new program to our computer it slows down. I once had a computer that took 15 minutes to “boot up.” I would turn on my computer in the morning and then I would take a shower or eat breakfast, or do a whole bunch of other things. I finally realized that my computer was slow because there was no room on my hard drive for anything new. Get ready for the new things God has for you!
