Complaining is a form of inner dialogue that erodes your self-confidence, resolve, and will. When we complain, we mentally focus on the bad things in our lives rather than the good. The enemy loves it when we complain–he wants us to speak about what we are experiencing rather than what we are expecting. That’s the goal of the enemy, because when we complain we remain right where we are. Complaining makes us feel like victims, attracts other complainers, and we wind up focusing on our problems rather than on Jesus and the solutions. To complain in Greek means “to have a secret debate” about a displeasure that is not openly expressed. The Israelites constant complaining, their “secret debates” caused an eleven day journey to turn into forty years of wandering in the wilderness. What the Israelites did not realize is that it is not what you lack that holds you back, it’s what you think you need. What are the secret debates in your life?
