Trade In of Life

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, September 4th 2017 Share the goods! Most of us are not mechanics so we go to the “dealership” or the “maker” of the car if we can’t fix the problem that the indicator light prompts us to. Why? Because if we have an extended warranty, they are supposed to fix whatever’s wrong. In other words, they have a responsibility to fix what we cannot fix because there are things that are going wrong beneath where we can see. This is great because they promise to fix the car until it is time to trade it in. As Christians, one day we are going to trade in this mortal body for an immortal body. But until that happens, until we are “traded in” for a new model, lights are going to come on. Like cars, life has breakdowns that we can’t avoid, but God has parts like grace, love, Holy Spirit, etc. So there is no need to go bumping along through life when we can take our problems to the Lord!!! Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, August 21st 2017 Share the goods! A young mother decided to take her son, who was just learning to play the piano, to a concert at Carnegie Hall by one of the greatest pianists of all time—Paderewski. During the intermission, she suddenly realized her son was gone. He had like he had done so many times in the past, become bored and went off to explore. She became frantic and as the house lights begin to dim for the second half of the performance, she hears the familiar notes of “chopsticks” being played on the grand piano on stage. She looks up and there is her son at the magnificent Steinway grand piano. The crowd is aghast. She is mortified. But suddenly the great Paderewski appears and sits down beside the young boy and tells him to keep playing his simple song. With his right hand he reaches around the young boy and adds the high notes and with his left, he adds the low notes and together they play a beautiful song that transforms the entire hall!!! We are all like that small boy surrounded by the arms of God. We need to lean back and trust in God’s power and glory and create a ministry that will transform the world where we have been planted. Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, May 15th 2017 Share the goods! In the Oxford crew, you will see these men who are sweating and straining and their movements are incredibly synchronized as they pull the long oars through the water. What is interesting is that these men have their backs to the finish line. How do they pace themselves and how do they know when to sprint? The answer is simple they focus on the coxswain. He is the guy with a megaphone sitting at the end of the boat facing the crew. He is the only one who knows where the finish line is. So the men at the oars focus on him, listen to him, obey his commands, and count on him to coach them to the finish line. He will pace them, he will encourage them, and they trust in him implicitly to get them across the finish line in the strongest possible way. They are counting on the coxswain to enable them to finish strong. We must learn to do the same thing with Jesus Christ! We must learn to trust the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sighted Skier

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, April 24th 2017 Share the goods! Prior to the 1988 Olympics, there was a television show about training blind skiers in slalom racing. Trainees would start off using a flat area and would be paired with a sighted skier. The blind skier learned to turn right and left and we taken to the slalom slopes. Sighted skiers would ski with them and shout; “left!” “right!” “right!” The trainees would turn when their sighted partner told them. They relied solely on the word of their sighted partner. If they relied on that word and turned when they were told to turn, then everything would turn out perfect. It was either trust or catastrophe! By listening to that sighted partner, they would finish the course and get across the finish line. This is the Christian life; we are blind compared to the Holy Spirit. Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, September 26th 2016 Share the goods! There was an amazing scientific study done some time ago that attempted to illustrate the power of words. The scientists put water in different jars and labeled the jars with certain words on the outside labels. One container was labeled love. Another container was labeled hate, and another was labeled patience. What is interesting is that after some time had passed, the scientists checked the molecular structure of the water inside the containers and discovered to their amazement the molecular structure had changed!!! This is so deep because if we as people are made of 90% water, then words must have a significant impact on us as people!!! There is power in the words we speak. Click To Tweet This is very similar to the demonstration done to prove the impact of music on plants. What was discovered was that the plants with the classical music grew above average. The plants with no music grew at an average rate, and the plants with hip hop/heavy metal music grew but at a rate below average. What the research uncovered was that classical music is played to a cadence that has a pattern or strong weak, strong weak – which is similar to how we breathe as humans. Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, February 1st 2016 Share the goods! This is the story of a mother who lost her daughter in a house fire…or so she thought. One day a woman was told that her house had burned down and her young daughter had died, but she was never fully satisfied with the explanation that the police gave her because she never saw the remains to positively identify her daughter. Mothers have a certain sense about their children; they’re super sensitive, observant and insightful and know every detail of a child’s body right down to the dimples. When God looks at you He knows, “that’s My child! Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, January 18th 2016 Share the goods! We can usually cope with something when we find out it’s normal. When a pregnant woman starts to have morning sickness or her feet start to swell she can initially become very upset, but when a doctor tells her that these experiences can be a normal part of pregnancy all of a sudden the woman’s perspective changes and she adapts. She’s still nauseated. Her ankles are still swollen, and she can’t fit comfortably into most of her clothes. She may still be feeling poorly physically, but she’s no longer worried because she understands what’s happening and that it’s all part of the process. If you go through life without understanding that there are some things that you have to go through so that you can deliver what God has impregnated in you, you can get distracted. John 16:33 NKJV says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. Planted vs Buried

Planted vs Buried

Family Leadership Men Personal Development Relationships Women Monday, October 12th 2015 Share the goods! It’s critical that we know the difference between being planted, and being buried. In John 12:24 (NKJV), Jesus says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” God wants you to know that you’ve been planted, but satan wants you to think that you’ve been buried. So it’s critical that we know the difference between planting and burial. On the surface, planting and burying look the same; both involve digging into the ground, but here’s the key difference: planting has a future; burial does not. You bury the dead when life is over, but when you plant a seed, you bury it in the ground so that after a period of transformation it comes back up greater than it was when it went down. When you plant a seed, you aren’t burying it to get rid of it, but rather you are planting the seed so that new life may grow. But satan wants you to feel that you’re buried. Buried in guilt. Buried in shame. Buried in regret. And he wants you to remain in buried, stuck in the dark. Just because you may be in a dark place now, it doesn’t mean that that’s your final destination. The second one did the same exact thing, but the third one was not to be bullied. As it started to fall off it grabbed the branch with its foot. But the parent was not sentimental; it peaked at the poor chick’s foot until it was more painful to fall than it was to hang on than deal with the insecurities of flying. I once had a computer that took 15 minutes to “boot up.” I would turn on my computer in the morning and then I would take a shower or eat breakfast, or do a whole bunch of other things. A man named George Wilson killed a government employee in 1830 who was caught in the act of obstructing the mail. Since he was not a law enforcement officer and he killed a government employee, Wilson was tried and condemned to death by hanging. But the then president of the United States, Andrew Jackson granted him an executive pardon. George Wilson, however, refused to accept the pardon. The department of corrections did not know what to do. The case was taken to the Supreme Court where Chief Justice Marshall ruled that “a pardon is a slip of paper, the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged.” And hanged he was. Even if we are opposed to the death penalty, we still cannot but agree with the principle that a pardon granted has to be accepted to become active. This is the point of the gospel. When God forgives us, we must accept God’s forgiveness.
